Useful tips when trying to recover a lost dog
When recovering your lost dog, take in a large search area as stray dogs can travel.
- Contact the dog warden, and wardens in surrounding areas
- Contact veterinary surgeons
- Contact RSPCA central control (telephone number on contacts page)
- Battersea Dog’s Home (telephone number on contacts page)
- Get a recent photo of the dog and make posters, make sure the ones put outside are weather proof (plastic sleeves).
- When making a poster do not put the dog’s name on it, put more than one contact number, make the writing bold and clear.
- Put posters in prominent dog areas ie pet shops, vets, parks, estates, pubs, hospital receptions, community centres, shopping areas, .
- Although the police are no longer responsible for stray dogs, it is always good to inform them and put up a poster in as many police stations as possible.
- Contact the local papers and ask them to do an article
- When people contact you do not go to meetings with them on your own, always take someone with you and make other people aware of what you are doing.
